Advertiser Step-by-Step Guide

This guide walks you through creating a campaign in Specify’s self-serve platform.

If this is your first campaign with us, you’ll be running a test campaign — a fixed-price, fixed-volume run that lets us validate targeting and conversion performance for your product. After the test, pricing moves to results-based CPA or tiered volume for ongoing campaigns.

Before you begin

To get the most out of your campaign, we recommend:

  • Clear campaign objectives (user acquisition, awareness, specific action)
  • A shortlist of competitor or adjacent projects whose users you want to reach
  • High-quality creative assets ready to upload
  • Your conversion definition in mind — what onchain action counts as a “real” new user

Step 1: Organization setup

Log in to your Specify account and either search for your existing organization or create a new one by clicking “Don’t see your organization on the list?”.

All organizations go through a review process before campaigns can go live. You can complete the full campaign setup in parallel while your review is pending.

Step 2: Project-based targeting

This is where Specify’s targeting works differently from traditional platforms. Instead of demographics, you select the projects whose users you want to reach — and we match on real onchain behaviour.

  1. From your organization page, click “Create Campaign”
  2. Click “Add Target Projects”
  3. Search our database of 10,000+ supported projects
  4. Select the projects whose users you want to reach — lean niche
  5. If you can’t find a project, contact the Specify team and we’ll add it for you

Pro tip: Start with 3–5 niche projects for your first campaign. You can expand targeting in future runs based on what performs. Broader targeting also means more competition for inventory, which can reduce effectiveness.

For the fuller framework on picking projects — direct competitors vs. adjacent products vs. complementary protocols — see the Targeting page.

Step 3: Ad creative

  1. Enter your Ad Title (recommended: 40–60 characters)
  2. Write your Ad Content (up to 500 characters)
  3. Upload your Ad Images:
    • Supported sizes: 800×600, 728×90, 320×100
    • Formats: PNG, JPG, or GIF
    • Max file size: 4MB
  4. Set your Call-to-Action text (15–25 characters recommended)
  5. Enter your CTA Link — where users land when they click

For guidance on writing and designing creative that performs, see the ad creatives guide.

Step 4: Budget

For first campaigns, the UI will show CPM mode with set prices. You don’t set a per-conversion price — that’s calibrated by our team after the test campaign, based on real performance data for your product.

  • Set your budget to $1,000 for the test campaign
  • This covers a fixed volume of impressions with full targeting and conversion tracking enabled
  • There’s no commitment beyond the test — after the report, you decide whether to move forward

After the test, ongoing campaigns move to results-based pricing — either fixed CPA or tiered volume-based — with the rate set from test campaign results.

Step 5: Business details

Add your billing information (company name and address).

Invoices are issued at the end of each month. Payment terms and VAT handling are covered in detail on the Pricing page.

Step 6: Campaign timeline

  1. Select your Start Date
    • Campaigns can start as soon as they’re approved
    • Leave a couple of business days for the approval process
  2. Choose your End Date
    • A 2-week window works well for initial test campaigns

Step 7: Review your campaign

The review page displays all your campaign details in one place. Check each section carefully and use the Edit buttons to make changes before submitting.

Step 8: Submit for review

Click “Submit for Review”. You’ll receive a confirmation email and your campaign status will change to “In Review”.

Step 9: Approval

The Specify team reviews your campaign — typically within 1–2 business days. During review we may reach out to discuss:

  • Targeting refinements based on your product and goals
  • Conversion definition specifics and any offchain data needs
  • Creative feedback if we think changes would help performance

Once approved, your campaign runs automatically from the selected start date.

Performance monitoring

Once live, you’ll have access to a real-time dashboard showing:

  • Conversions as they happen
  • Returning inactive users vs. brand new acquisitions
  • A detailed table of all attributed transactions
  • Conversion rate broken down by targeted project

After the campaign

At the end of your test campaign we produce a full report covering incrementality, volume, analysis, and recommendations — and we walk through it with you on a call. From there you can move to results-based pricing for ongoing campaigns, run another test with refined targeting, or step away. No commitment either way.

See the Test Campaign page for what to expect from the report and the conversation that follows.
