Advertiser Step-by-Step Guide

Creating an Ad Campaign in Specify V1

This comprehensive guide will walk you through the process of creating an effective ad campaign in Specify's self-serve platform.

Before You Begin

To get the most out of your campaign, we recommend:

  • Having clear campaign objectives (awareness, user acquisition, etc.)

  • Identifying competitor or aligned projects whose users you want to target

  • Preparing high-quality creative assets for your ad

  • Determining your budget and timeline

  • Having your conversion tracking requirements ready

Step 1: Organization Setup

Creating or Importing Your Organization

  1. Log in to your Specify account

  2. Search for your existing project OR click "Don't see your organization on the list?" to create a new one

Note: All organizations must undergo a review process before their campaigns can go live. You can still complete the campaign setup during the review period.

Step 2: Project-Based Targeting

This is where Specify's unique targeting capabilities shine. Instead of demographic targeting, you'll select specific projects whose users you want to reach:

  1. From your organization page, click the "Create Campaign" button

  2. Click "Add Target Projects"

  3. Search our database of 6,000+ projects

  4. Select projects in any of these categories:

    • Direct competitors

    • Complementary projects

    • Projects from the same industry vertical

    • Projects with similar user profiles

  5. If you do not find a project please contact the Specify team and we can add it for you

Pro Tip: Start with 3-5 niche projects for initial campaigns to gather performance data. You can always expand targeting in future campaigns. The bigger the targeted project the more competition for views there will be, reducing campaign effectiveness.

Step 4: Ad Creative Setup

Currently, Specify ads appear in Outposts, our personalized web3 newsletter. This format allows for robust content and visually striking graphics.

  1. Enter your Ad Title (recommended: 40-60 characters)

  2. Craft your Ad Content (up to 500 characters)

  3. Upload your Ad Image:

    • Recommended dimensions: 800x600px

    • Formats: PNG or JPG or GIF

    • Max file size: 4MB

  4. Set your Call-to-Action text (15-25 characters recommended)

  5. Enter the CTA Link (where users will go when they click)

Creative Best Practices:

  • Focus on a single clear message or value proposition

  • Include your unique selling points

  • Use high-quality, relevant imagery

  • Create a compelling reason to click

  • Ensure your landing page experience matches your ad message

Step 5: Budget Configuration

  1. Set your Total Campaign Budget

    • Minimum recommended: $3,000 to ensure sufficient reach

    • You can adjust this amount later if needed

  2. Cost Per Transaction (CPTx) Rate

    • Currently, this is set manually by the Specify team

    • We'll contact you to discuss the optimal rate based on your objectives

    • Specify v1.1 will include automatic price discovery

Note on CPTx: Unlike traditional platforms that charge for impressions or clicks, you'll only pay when users complete on-chain transactions after seeing your ad. This ensures you're only paying for real results.

Step 6: Business Details

Add your Billing Information (Company name and address)

Payments are done via invoice 2 weeks after an ad is last shown

Step 7: Campaign Timeline

  1. Select your desired Start Date

    • Campaigns can start as soon as they're approved

    • Aim to leave a couple of business days for approval process

  2. Choose your End Date

    • We recommend starting with a 1-week campaign for initial testing

Step 8: Review Your Campaign

  1. The review page displays all your campaign details in one place

  2. Check each section carefully before submission

  3. Use the "Edit" buttons to make any necessary changes

Step 9: Submit For Review

  1. Click the "Submit for Review" button

  2. You'll receive a confirmation email with campaign details

  3. Your campaign status will change to "In Review"

Step 10: Approval Process

  1. The Specify team will review your campaign (typically within 1-2 business days)

  2. We'll contact you to discuss:

    • Your CPTx rate

    • Any suggested optimizations to maximize performance

    • Conversion tracking specifics

  3. Once approved, your campaign will automatically begin on the selected start date

Performance Monitoring

Once your campaign is live, you'll have access to a real-time dashboard showing:

  • Conversions

  • Returning inactive vs Brand new users

  • Detailed table of all transactions

  • Conversion rate by targeted project
